Go…Stroll…Unwind…
Waxhaw Main Street, a perfect way to spend the day!
Well, I have to share the amazing day I had strolling up and down, zig zagging the Main Street of Waxhaw, once or twice wandering up a side street for more unexpected treasures! Last Friday was a day of slow, enjoyable, meandering…not something I get to experience often! I felt as though I had stepped into a world gone by, historical store fronts, sweet, friendly, and personable business owners, and a setting out of a movie of days gone by. If this sounds over the top, go for yourself and park your car and stroll…you will also feel the warmth and love this town has to offer.
I took WAY too many photos, I really couldn’t help myself, and met so many memorable people, all of the shop owners and staff were more than happy to chat, inform and pass the time with me as I wandered. That said, here are some of the destinations I had the extreme pleasure of entering!
After parking, the first stop was the Crossroads Coffee House, just up from the main street on 112 N Broome St. This Coffee house is the perfect place to grab a hot coffee or latte to start your stroll. They offer fresh coffee beans daily, you will never get a stale bean here! Check out these fun pics from this ideal Coffee House in the South!

Latte in hand we found ourselves in Boutique Twice as Nice, soooo fun!! There is clothing, jewelry, luggage tags, old school wallets, and probably the funnest rain boots ever! I mean if you are going to rock rain boots…this is the place to find them! Colorful and sassy! Love them! Have a peak…

Roll on to Waxhaw Antique Mart, now this was an experience! Betty, Owner, incredible! This establishment in a historic building that was completed in 1898 offers antiques from over 41 vendors, and the treasures to be found are literally endless! Besides that, Betty just might be one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. She talked of her store and also spent the time to share the Waxhaw local tourism magazine, and her love of her town is apparent. I know the pictures are many, but this has become a very visual world, and Betty’s Antique Mart offers many photo op’s! I would also like to thank her for the beautiful Waxhaw Antique Mart pen she so generously gave us for visiting her store and spending some time! Thank you Betty! We LOVE your shop! Fest your eyes here:

Sassy n Classy…so much to offer! Pat has been offering beads for jewels for 11 years! Her store is loaded with jewelry, hand bags, hats, and accessories for all! Her store is welcoming and I seriously considered learning to make my own jewelry while I was here! Oh, and don’t forget Steeplechase…this is the spot to get your hat for the Queens Cup Steeplechase! She also has jewelry that she and her son have made by hand, along with Native American jewels, and many other unique and beautiful pieces. The cuffs featuring large flowers are especially beautiful! See for yourself!

Feeling crafty after that last set of pics? How about a stitch or two? If knitting or crochet sound like a winner this shop is the one for you! A cozy and welcoming area to sit and stitch mixed with the friendly women inside make me want to pick up my needles and stay awhile! Besides the plethora of popular yarns available, this shop offers LOCAL natural fibre wools, they are scrumptious and gorgeous, your imagination is the only limit with the things you could make from this beautiful wool! If that isn’t enough you can visit the farm that this wool originates, the Carolina Llamas! Look at this sitting area and the gorgeous wools that abound…then go get your car keys! 🙂

Tired?? Well this 3 block Main Street isn’t done with us yet! If your feet are getting taxed though just pop into the Bike Depot and get yourself a set of wheels! If you are a Waxhaw local you already know all of these goodies, but if not, this shop is another reason to venture into town! They sell and service bikes for all ages! Personally the touring bikes are on my wish list, but racing bikes, mountain bikes and bikes with training wheels are all in stock, so slip in and find your fit!

STARVING now..we are becoming shopped out, and this tavern is packed, always a good sign, so in we go! Maxwells’s Tavern, the atmosphere is friendly, and service is great, and the burger delish! This family owned tavern is a refreshing change from all of the chains that abound in CLT, it is local and fits perfectly in it’s spot right on Main Street with all of the other business’s new and old! Two brothers and their families run this tavern and it is a winner, my burger was fantastic and I can’t wait to return!

Stuffed and on our way out of town this shop catches my eye! The NOT TO BE MISSED Stewart’s Village Gallery!! Whether you are decorating your own home or need that perfect gift for someone special, this is thee place! Most of the pottery is hand made by Bill Stewart, and the glass and wood pieces should not be missed! They are spectacular! There is jewelry, indoor and outdoor decor, kitchen goodies, and I can only say…go…go for yourself and browse. You WILL NOT be disappointed! This business also offers classes if you are so inclined, check it out! Here are just a few of the impressive items in store:

This is just a small glimpse into some of the shopping and culture that Waxhaw has to offer. There are several more business’s we haven’t even mentioned…maybe a second part…we’ll see. I hope you enjoyed the photos from our stroll as much as we enjoyed seeing all of these treasures. Charlotte defiantly has a lot to offer, but Waxhaw in it’s own right is not to be missed, and if you are lucky enough to be one of us locals….living in this community, well good for us! 🙂
Happy Monday y’all!!
I know enough pics…but here are a few for the road….
